 Lanzhou Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences has made new progress in the direct methanol fuel cell anode catalyst synthesis and properties of research areas, improve the activity and stability of the anode catalyst carrier select and the catalyst structure design and reduce cost.

Researchers graphene as the carrier, using simple steps and environmentally friendly method for preparing synthetic loading dendritic structure of the platinum-nickel alloy catalyst. The catalyst has great electrochemical active surface area and of methanol catalytic activity and stability is much higher than the platinum ruthenium / carbon catalyst. The direct methanol fuel cell has the advantage of low-temperature fast start, the structure is simple, easy to store fuel, environmental pollution, can be used for the uninterrupted communication equipment and portable electronic products, however, the high cost of anode catalyst hinder its commercial application.

Compared with the system of the pairs of noble metal (platinum, platinum-palladium, platinum and ruthenium) catalyst, the platinum-nickel alloy catalyst preparation cost is low and the process is simple.
